Homelessness Is Not What You Think ~

* One in every 50 American children will experience homelessness this year.

* 87% of those children are enrolled in school.

* A staggering 34% of the homeless population are families trying to raise children.

* 44% of homeless people who have jobs still cannot escape homelessness.

* Families with children are the fastest growing segment of homelessness in America today.

* If you don't think a homeless person wants or needs a book, take one to a shelter and see for yourself.

 Gratitude is a remarkable motivator.

How you can help us give hope:

When you buy a book for someone else at any retail bookseller , we will donate one of our used book in your name to a homeless shelter or hospital ICU waiting room. It's as simple as that.

You do not need to give us the book you buy, you don't give us any money, just make a pledge that you will buy and give a book to anyone you want. We will do the rest in honor of your commitment.

Sign up (first name only if you prefer) and someone living in a homeless shelter, or waiting for news of a loved one in a hospital ICU waiting room, will be given a book with your name handwritten on a label like the image below.  Pledge Here:

Others ways to help:

* Collect and donate used books to us, especially children's books and novels, or anything written in Spanish.

*Organize a neighborhood book drop, or ask your religious home to sponsor a used book drive. I can personally pick up donations of books in MD, VA, DC, NJ and Austin, TX.

* Collect and distribute books in your part of the country. We will send labels for inside each book and a list of names to be handwritten on the label, plus some bookmarks as our thanks to you for your work. You will also be listed on the web site as a Partner.

* As always, reach out to those who are weary. A smile or kind word can change the course of someone's life at just the right time.
