One out of every fifty children in America will experience homelessness this year.

Homelessness is not what you think.

Frequently Asked Questions ~

Q. Why not just donate the used books without the commitment from someone to buy a book?

A. Part of our initiative comes from the desire to be active in helping stimulate the economy so we can all move out of this recession. We believe in books. By asking you to purchase a book to give as a gift for someone, we are not only passing on their goodness two at a time, but we can also make a tiny dent in the decline the book publishing industry has experienced over the last several years.

Q. Can my little purchase really make a difference?

A. Yes! And not only your purchase, but when you share information about this project, more and more people will do the same.

Q. What if the people I buy gifts for don't read?

A. Do they cook? Have they ever wanted to learn to crochet or knit? Do they like comic books (graphic novels)? Do they love to travel? Look at photos? Do they drive long distances and listen to the radio? Trust us, there is a book of some sort out there for everyone. There are books in braille for the blind, audio books for long distance drivers, cook books, gardening books, crossword puzzle books, books filled with photos, aromatherapy books, activity books, books in large print .... you simply cannot go wrong.

Q. How do you know I will really buy a book if I say I will?

A. Because we believe in you.

Q. Why just the homeless?

A. Our goal is to help those who have weary hearts and need the boost a book can bring. The homeless are the most obvious starting point, especially when you understand the facts about who they really are. But also, because of personal experience, we would like to get enough books to donate to hospital ICU waiting rooms, where families wait for news of their loved ones. If you have other ideas of places to donate books, please feel free to contact us.

Q. How else can I help?

A. * Pass the word on to your friends and family, your co-workers, and your local bookstores.

    * Plus, we want to donate books all across America. If you live in Tuscaloosa or Seattle, Bar Harbor or El Paso, you can help by taking books to the shelters in your area. We will provide you with stickers to go on the inside with our logo, and a place for you to hand write the name of the person donating, as well as a list of names.

    * And, of course: Pledge Here
